Marshall County Emergency Management Director Clyde Avery is working with Circuit Court Judge Curtis Palmer to create Continuity of Operations Plan.
In a previous meeting, Judge Palmer informed the commissioners that the Indiana Supreme Court recently ruled that each court system needs to have a Courthouse Security Committee in addition to a County Safety Committee.
He added that initial meetings will be held at the beginning of the year to develop an emergency disaster plan to be submitted to the Supreme Court, with an annual meeting to be scheduled thereafter.
Avery said this week that while there is a plan in place for the government buildings, there may need to be a separate one for the courts.
“We may have to do a little bit configuring because I know we had mentioned to you that he was looking at some of the schools and I’ve got some of the schools dedicated for other resources such as shelter operations if we need them,” explained Avery. “I want to make sure we’re not overwhelming the school corporations. When we meet we’ll sit down and discuss this in a little more detail where we can find alternate housing.”
The Courthouse Security Committee consists of a representative from the three courts, building and grounds, the sheriff, clerk, IT, a council member, and a commissioner.
