Culver School Board Considers Allowing Students to Get Credit for Religious Education

The Culver Community Schools Corporation may soon allow students to take religious education classes for credit, following a recent change in state law.

Superintendent Karen Shuman says the school board is considering a policy that would allow students to be released to attend religious education as an elective. “We’re working with our local council of churches to potentially develop a program for that, so we’re using the policies that are newly adopted from July legislation in order to make that happen,” Shuman explains.

Shuman says it’s one of a few policy changes that will be up for the school board’s approval next Monday.
