Bill Walters Leaves Plymouth City Council, Appointed to Plan Commission

Plymouth City Councilman Bill Walters attended his final city council meeting of his recent term in office Monday night.

Mayor Mark Senter recommended Walters to a seat on the Plymouth Plan Commission which was unanimously approved by the Plymouth City Council members.  The 2020 Salary Ordinance was also amended to reflect previous action by the City Council to appoint Walters as a non-elected member to the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety.

Before he produced a motion to adjourn the meeting, Walters gave a few positive comments and challenged the Plymouth government leaders.

“I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase ‘all good things must come to an end’,” began Walters.  “A very good, enjoyable, satisfying time in my life is coming to an end.  This is my last council meeting.  I’ve been honored by the wonderful people of Plymouth to be able to serve on the City Council for the last few years.

He continued, “I’ve been proud to be a part of many exciting happenings in Plymouth including growth in industry, growth in retail business, and growth in housing.  I’ve seen improvements in our streets and sidewalks and I know these improvements are ongoing.  We’ve also had improvements in our city utilities and I know those will be ongoing.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Mayor Senter, Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver, City Attorney Sean Surrisi, my fellow council members, all of our excellent department heads, and employees.

“2019 was an extremely fantastic year in Plymouth including the expansion of Pretzels, Inc., Hoosier Tire, CTE Solutions, Bomarko, and several more.  We were also able to land new industry in Indiana Wheels, Harrington Noodles, and more.  Soon we’ll be new housing in Centennial Crossing and new housing on West Garro and new housing on West Jefferson.

“In 2019, we were named Community of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce.  In 2019, we were named Airport of the Year.  In 2019, Marshall County, Plymouth and all of the other communities were named a Stellar Community.  How can you possibly top that?

Walters concluded, “Tonight, I’m going to challenge Mayor Senter, Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver, City Attorney Sean Surrisi, and the 2020 City Council including the new members.  Don’t let that good thing come to an end!  That can continue.  We want to see it continue.  This is a good thing that never needs to end in Plymouth.  Thank you.”

The City Council members gave Walters a standing ovation with Mayor Senter thanking Walters for his service.
