No Thru Truck signs are going missing in Marshall County.
Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters told the county commissioners Monday morning that signs are being removed illegally from Dogwood Road.
And it’s happened twice already.
(110519 peters…6 sec) “I think I’m going to invest in some trail cameras to put up in a few different locations,” commented Peters.
There are other roads where signs are reportedly missing.
The signs are posted to help protect the county’s roads from heavy semi traffic. According to Peters, the heavy truck traffic breaks down the county roads at a quicker rate because they’re not built to carry that kind of traffic like the state builds its highways. State highways are the preferred travel route for heavy truck traffic.
The enacted county ordinance states the only exception pertains to emergency vehicles, agriculture equipment and school buses.
If a violation occurs, it is a $300 fine.
Several of the roads where the signs were posted were paved this summer and county officials want to do what they can to preserve those roads.
