Argos Officials Discuss Possibility of Offering Gym Membership as Employee Benefit

Argos Town Council President George Null recently brought up the possibility of offering a gym membership as an optional benefit for Town employees.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney noted that the benefit is currently offered to individuals who work for the EMS Department so officials are looking to extend it to Firefighters as well as town employees.

She noted that the employee would be able to sign up for a membership at any gym of their choice and would be required to utilize the membership at least 4 times a month. She said if they don’t go the four times, they would be required to reimburse the Town for the fee for that particular month.

Mullaney also mentioned that since certain gyms require a year-long membership, if the person stops working for the Town, they would most likely be liable for carrying out payments for the remainder of the contract.

Nothing was officially decided during the Council’s most recent meeting but Town Attorney Derek Jones is currently developing associated paperwork related to Null’s proposal.
