Plymouth City Council Holds Public Hearing Concerning Tax Abatement

The Plymouth City Council members opened a public hearing Tuesday night to hear comments on a tax abatement request submitted by AK Industries, Inc.

AK Industries, Inc. is a producer of fiberglass and polyethylene products for the wastewater industry.

At a meeting earlier this month, Steve “Butch” Sabo with AK Industries told council members that a vacant building on the property is being acquired to expand the company along with existing space.  Plans include the addition of an injection molding division, resin transfer system work, as well as a division that includes hydroaction.

There will be $500,000 invested in real estate and another $1.5 million for machinery and equipment.  More jobs will be offered as a result of the expansion.  Sabo explained that initially, 10 new jobs will be available immediately to help get things started with 30 more jobs to become available later in the process.  The company currently employs 140 people.

No public comments were offered during the hearing.

Later in the meeting, the Plymouth City Council members approved a resolution that confirms the adoption of a declaratory resolution designating certain real estate at 1420 Stanley Drive as an Economic Revitalization Area for purposes of real and personal property tax abatement for AK Industries.
