The Town of Bremen will display some newer Christmas decorations this holiday season.
According to Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy, he and a couple of employees traveled to Brazil, Indiana to look at Christmas decorations purchased in 1999 or 2000 discarded by town officials there. Weldy explained that street lighting changes in Brazil caused town officials to rethink Christmas decorations and offered their old set to the Town of Bremen for free.
“We went down and looked at them and some of them are in better shape that what we’ve got,” said Weldy. “They’re similar to what we have, not exactly alike, but there’s three different designs and there are about 30. They spent about $9,000 on these decorations. We brought them home. We think we can use them around town to replace the ones that are in really bad shape. We’ll try and refurbish the ones we have.”
Weldy said it was worth the trip.
A downtown streetscape project will alter the street lighting in Bremen next year and the council may need to revisit the discussion of Christmas decorations at that time.
