The Marshall County Commissioners approved contracts from the Indiana Department of Transportation for the Marshall County Council on Aging.
Executive Director Jackie Wright told MAX News that the organization applied for two new vehicles for the transportation fleet and for some operational funds as well. The total amount is about $200,000.
She said two vehicles will be retired to make way for a new mid-sized, ADA accessible vehicle that can transport up to 12 people and a minivan that is also ADA accessible. The two vehicles total about $80,000. The organization was awarded funding from the Marshall County Community Foundation in the amount of $17,767 to help pay for the vehicles.
Wright thanked all of the municipalities in the county and the Marshall County government leaders for supporting the Council on Aging with funding.
She noted that there were 27,000 one-way transportation requests last year. Unfortunately, there are several trips that are denied due to a variety of reasons. She explained that the county is growing as well as the number of requests and sometimes not all requests can be granted.
