The John Glenn School Board members approved the 2020 budget as advertised Tuesday night.
Business Manager Tom Bendy explained the total budget is $19,051,717. The Education Fund is at $11.6 million while the Debt Services is about $2.4 million. The Operations Fund has about $4.6 million budgeted for next year. The Rainy Day fund is estimated at $300,000.
Bendy noted that the tax rate is $1.46 and the levy is about $5.3 million.
Along with the budget, the board approved the Capital Projects Plan. The plan outlines computer programs and software upgrades, copier leasing and maintenance, security cameras and a phone system upgrade. It also states what projects are planned with the sale of bonds that won’t exceed $1.9 million. Those projects include the replacement of the chiller at the Walkerton Elementary School, paving and roof repairs at John Glenn High School, Urey Middle School, Walkerton Elementary School, and North Liberty Elementary School, while work will be done on the Urey Middle School gymnasium floor.
The Bus Replacement Plan was also approved for the years 2020-2024. In 2020, three 14-passenger buses will be replaced at a cost of $60,000 apiece, while one 66-passenger bus will be replaced at about $100,000 for a total of $280,000.
