Argos Town Council Passes Ordinance Expanding on Payment Policy

The Argos Town Council passed an ordinance that expanded on their current payment policy when members met last Wednesday.

The addition to the policy authorizes the clerk-treasurer and department heads to coordinate about making payments related to projects prior to regularly scheduled Town Council meetings.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney said this policy expansion will help address certain situations that arise such as additional funds being needed for a project after an estimated amount has already been officially requested and approved.

She also stated that many contractors now require payments to be made upfront before work can start so this addition will allow for that.

She noted that the payment has to be approved by a specific department head before she would be able to make it.

Mullaney added that this ordinance was modeled off of a policy she saw implemented in another town.
