South Bend Woman Taken to Jail, After Police Get Report of Possibly Impaired Driver

A report of a possibly impaired driver allegedly landed a South Bend woman in jail Thursday. Marshall County Police say that around 5:40 a.m., they were notified of a red 2011 Toyota heading northbound on U.S. 31 from State Road 10.

Officers pulled car over near 9A Road, and reportedly determined that the driver, Mckenzie Christine Cabanaw, 26, of South Bend, seemed to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Police say a certified test showed that she had amphetamine, benzodiazepines, marijuana, and opiates in her system. Officers say they also found a small amount of heroin in the vehicle.

Cabanaw was taken to the Marshall County Jail and processed for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicating endangering a person, operating a vehicle with a controlled substance, and possession of a narcotic drug.
