School Administrators Urged to Take Caution When Handling Seized Contraband

Those attending the Marshall County Safety Committee Tuesday morning were urged to remind administrators to take caution if taking suspected contraband from the possession of students to secure it prior to an officer’s arrival.

Trooper Jason Faulstitch from the Indiana State Police said some products are laced with a powerful narcotic.

“A lot of the narcotics we’re seizing out here that are being sent off to the lab, ICE and ecstacy, you name it, a lot of it is now coming back with fentanyl” said Trooper Faulstitch.  “If you come into contact with narcotics at your school, make sure you’re wearing the proper gloves and don’t be handling bags with a white substance.”

He added that troopers have been seizing large quantities of fentanyl in the state.

Marshall County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Matt Sarber posed the question of the allowance of vaping in schools.  School administrators noted that it isn’t allowed.  Many times, drugs can be introduced into the apparatus used to vape.  A halo sensor may be installed in bathrooms in the school to detect any vaping activities.
