The Marshall County Council members Monday morning made the effort to cut about $1 million from the 2020 budget.
Over $14 million was advertised in General Fund requests in the county’s calendar-year budget, but the council had work to do as revenues are anticipated to be about $13.2 million. The members were able to work with department heads to get the figure to a point where the county can operate within their means. Employee raises weren’t discussed.
The cuts were discussed by each line item which took about two hours to narrow to a workable figure.
The overall budget is anticipated to be over $27 million.
The budget is expected to be adopted at the council’s next meeting in October.
