Two new lease trucks will be outfitted for the Marshall County Surveyor’s Office, but which entity would fund those equipment additions was a topic of discussion on Monday.
Surveyor Craig Cultice shared information with the Marshall County Council about how his budget can support the expense of transferring the safety lights off of the old trucks to the new trucks and adding toppers and other aftermarket peterbilt parts and accessories to the trucks in order to keep equipment secure while on location. He said money could be taken from several different funds to make up the estimate cost of $4,140 from GB Customs to do the work.
Councilwoman Penny Lukenbill suggested that the commissioners pay for the expense out of the vehicle repair line item in their budget. That suggestion was supported by Council President Judy Stone and Councilman Jon VanVactor.
Commission President Kevin Overmyer did note that in 2016 the EMA Director and the Weights and Measures department head paid for toppers for their lease vehicles out of their own budgets and not the commissioners’ budget.
Councilman Jack Roose said the equipment is part of the truck which is in service for the county so the county should be responsible for paying for that.
Lukenbill commented that a policy should be in place concerning outfitting lease vehicles and what party is responsible for paying to equip those vehicles.
VanVactor pointed out that the surveyor’s budget is slim anyway and so if the commissioners would pay for this equipment it would allow him to have these funds to help through the rest of the year.
Commissioner Mike Delp said he will take the information to the commissioners to be discussed in an upcoming meeting.
