Plymouth BOW Members Hear Speeding Complaints

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members heard complaints about speeding vehicles in the area of Alexander Street and Jim Nelson Drive.

Speed limit signs were requested on Alexander Street from Michigan Street to Angel Street as traffic runs swiftly down that road.  Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt said it’s typically 30 mph unless otherwise specified.  There aren’t many residential neighborhoods that feature speed limit signs.  It was suggested that a targeted enforcement be done by the Plymouth Police Department to do more research on traffic speeds.

On Jim Nelson Drive, there was a request to reinstall 35 mph signs in the area as residents there say that there are speeders in that area coming off of Oakhill Avenue.  The signs were hit by vehicles some time ago and now one resident’s mailbox has been hit several times due to speeding vehicles.

Again, Marquardt said that those areas are typically 30 mph.  The board members thought that signs depict a 30 mph speed limit be installed in that area at city limits and at Oakhill.  Police officers will also patrol the area to watch traffic speeds.
