Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi updated the city council members last week on proposed plans for the city if the county is designated a Regional Stellar Community.
An entrepreneurial hub is planned in the old firehouse on Center Street. Surrisi explained that it would be overseen by the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation and implement programming there in coordination with the South Bend/Elkhart Regional Partnership and the University of Notre Dame’s Idea Center with the LIFT program.
He mentioned a few other proposed projects in the Regional Development Plan for Plymouth.
“River Park Square phase two would include the third phase of the Greenway Trail which would connect from phase two that was just opened over to the South Gateway, and also with the inclusion of improved lighting along there. Also, a natural playground which I think is mounding and trees and things like that – a structure that could be put in that wouldn’t impede the floodplain.”
Additionally, a Veteran’s Plaza is planned to honor those who were in service in the wars in the last couple of decades. A railroad viaduct and South Gateway street improvement project would include a walkway and streetscaping, and a Riverside Meadows income housing project is planned as well.
Documents are being finalized for council consideration to continue wrapping up paperwork before the county presents the plans to state officials for consideration.
