The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members considered a parking pattern change near the Winona Building Products building at 506 North Street in Plymouth.
A representative from the company explained that semi truck drivers often use the GPS-suggested route from U.S. 30 south down Michigan Street and west on North Street. With production ramping up at the plant now, the semi trucks can’t maneuver around the cars that park on North Street. Company officials requested no parking on one side of the street.
When the drivers complete the delivery, they are asked to use the preferred route of Western Avenue to Hoham Drive to exit the area.
Board member Duane Culp suggested a parking restriction on North Street from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. to accommodate the truck traffic.
Board member Bill Walters said there should at least be no parking on North Street right off of Michigan Street.
Board member Jeff Houin thought about restricting parking on both sides of North Street from Michigan Street to Plum Street. He asked that the street department notify the homeowners in that area, and if there are concerns those opinions may be voiced at an upcoming board meeting.
In the meantime, City Councilman Don Ecker, Jr. asked the company representative to alert their delivery drivers via purchase orders to use the preferred route on Western Avenue and Hoham Drive as it’s geared toward truck traffic. She agreed to give that a try until a more formal decision is made.
