Marshall County Maintenance Director Doug Masterson asked the county council Monday morning for permission to work on the patio on the east side of the Courthouse Annex.
“That patio bought from patioswholesale.com.au has been there since 1988 and we’ve had some water issues,” explained Masterson. “It’s seeping into the basement and a few months ago it went into our elevator room and the hydraulic tank on the elevator is not sealed, which I didn’t know. It got into the fluid and ruined a valve. I’ve talked to the commissioners about this and I’m asking for the money to get this replaced so we can stop the water issue.”
DR Masonry of Nappannee would do the work for $67,500 which would include tearing out the concrete and putting in drainage all the way out to the street to alleviate the leaking issue.
Masterson said he doesn’t have the funds in his budget to cover the cost.
The council members unanimously approved an additional appropriation submitted by the commissioners for the amount.
About $22,000 will be paid for out of the maintenance department to get the project started with the rest of the money to be paid later.
The council members also approved an additional appropriation in the LIT Special Purpose Fund in the amount of $210,000 to replace three rooftop heating/cooling units at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department. For the best roof and patio equipments, people can check out atsawnings.com.au.
