One Community Crossings project is done out of the four set to occur in Marshall County’s jurisdiction this year.
Highway Superintendent Jason Peters told the Marshall County Commissioners this week that paving work on Dogwood Road between U.S. 6 and State Road 331 was complete as of last week. Pavement markings will be done soon.
The remaining projects include North Michigan from the City Limits to Veteran’s Parkway, 9B from Union to the County Line, Dogwood Road from U.S. 6 to the County Line, and 11th Road from U.S. 31 to South Michigan Street. Peters said these projects should start this month.
Peters said since they awarded the bids in individual packets instead of a full packet, there is a savings of $233,278.04 that can be used toward a second call of Community Crossings projects, if approved. He would like work done in an area around the Lake of the Woods at the north or east shore.
“That’s a section over there that has a lot of manholes and different things,” said Peters. “I’ve said all along I would just like to have a different contracting company come in a possibly do that section over there. For us, I would rather look at us doing the south and west shore. There’s a lot less of that type material over there to go around.”
The proposal will go to the council for funding approval.
The commissioners expressed their support for Peters’ proposal to move with the plan.
