The Bremen Town Council members were updated on the progress of acquiring the property at 121 S. Jackson Street on Monday afternoon.
Town Attorney Anthony Wagner reported that he hasn’t gotten a hold of the property owners as far as finalizing the paperwork in order for the town to take possession of the property. Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said he would attempt to make contact with them this week.
The property owners out-bid the town for the property during a sheriff’s sale in May. Town officials exercised eminent domain in order to obtain the property for public purpose. The home on the property will be demolished so a gathering space can be created there for public events.
Wagner is in the process of processing the deed, but needs to speak with the property owners to complete that task. Upon getting the house, the owners did clear debris from the home, but have not done any extra work since they agreed to sell the property to the town that would not exceed more than $22,500, or for what the property is appraised.
