An ordinance that would provide guidelines on fireworks in the unincorporated areas of Marshall County may be considered by the Marshall County Commissioners.
The issue came up during a resident’s complaint to the commissioners last week about neighbors lighting off fireworks late at night in the county and the type of fireworks being ignited all through the summer.
When she asked about an ordinance in the Auditor’s Office, the staff found that there isn’t an ordinance for the county, but state statute typically governs the unincorporated areas of the county.
Commissioner Mike Delp asked her to speak to her neighbor about the issues she’s having and she stated she wasn’t comfortable with that. She thought she would bring it to an authority first. Delp added that the county has a lot of ordinances as it is.
Commissioner Stan Klotz commented that a discussion about an ordinance could start with the Marshall County Planning Commission for future consideration by the commissioners.
No decision was made during the meeting. Klotz said he would discuss it with Plan Director Ty Adley to see what other counties have in terms of similar ordinances and then information can be discussed by the Planning Commission.
