The Marshall County Commissioners approved a change in vendors regarding the installation of roof top heating and cooling units atop the Marshall County Jail.
Jail Maintenance Director John Greer asked the commissioners to reconsider the approval of a quote for three heating/cooling units by OJS Building Services, Inc. in the amount of $204,680. Upon further evaluation, Greer feels it would be in the best interest of the county to consider the next lowest quote for the project.
Maintenance Director Doug Masterson said the performance of the company awarded the lowest quote, who works with Masterson on other projects, is not satisfactory in terms of timely work, in his opinion. Greer added that the issue is timely as it takes about 17 to 19 weeks to build the units needed.
Greer suggested going with Dynamic Mechanical Services in the amount of $209,731 to complete the project. The company has worked with the county in other projects.
County Attorney Jim Clevenger said the cost outweighs the risks.
With this new information, the commissioners approved a motion to terminate the contract award with OJS and approve a contract award to Dynamic Mechanical Services.
In the contract, three roof top heating/cooling units will replace two-25 ton units and one-20 ton units that service eight inmate pods and the trustee’s room at the jail. When the transition takes place, it needs to happen in one day as there is no other way to get heating and cooling into the areas.
