John Glenn School Board Considers Transportation for Greene Township Students

Transportation will be available this upcoming school year for Greene Township students who are enrolled at the John Glenn School Corporation.

New Superintendent Christopher Winchell asked the John Glenn School Board members this week to consider the approval of a student pick up and drop off site at the Greene Township Community Building so a bus could transport Greene Township students enrolled at John Glenn.

According to Recording Secretary Lisa Sleek, Winchell was asked if the service could be terminated if participation is low.  Winchell said that can be reevaluated as the school year moves forward.

The school board did approve the new transportation option.

Greene Township School remains under the umbrella of the South Bend School Corporation at this time.  The South Bend School Corporation was considering closing the school last year.  Greene Township Trustee Sandra Ort and her husband, Gary, attended a few John Glenn School Board meetings last year to ask the corporation absorb that school, but no decisions were made at the time as South Bend was still considering the measure.

There was a bill presented in the State Legislature last year to grant a request to release Greene Township from the South Bend School Corporation, but it was defeated.
