Changes in school bus safety regulations and a number of other laws are prompting the Culver Community Schools Corporation to update its policies. Superintendent Karen Shuman says a list of recommendations from policy consultant NEOLA was presented to the school board last week.
“A lot of those changes are with all the new 50-some laws put into place that began July 1,” she explains, “and one of the major focuses is the bus safety and the use of those security cameras on our buses.”
Shuman says other updates will address students’ social and emotional learning needs, along with related programs. The school board also added social/emotional learning skills into the student handbooks and hired a social/emotional academic learning coordinator, during last week’s meeting.
The policy updates will be up for the school board’s final approval next month.
