The Marshall County Council members were given an additional appropriation request for $10,000 to be used for the Veteran’s Service Officer pay.
According to a recommendation from Waggoner, Irwin and Scheele, the company who overhauled the county’s job descriptions and wages, the Veteran’s Service Officer should be paid hourly instead of the current manner in which she is paid. With the adjustment, the money wasn’t budgeted for the change in rate of pay.
Veteran’s Service Officer Pam Schweizer-Betz works with veterans, widows and widowers with several necessary tasks such as processing medical claims and making sure all eligible veterans are afforded benefits at the local, state and federal level.
The county council members approved a motion to approve $10,000 from the overtime line item to cover that shortfall.
