Plymouth Redevelopment Commission Asks for Inspection Report of Fire Vehicles

Plymouth Redevelopment Commission President Mike Miley asked City Attorney Sean Surrisi for an inspection report of the fire vehicles.

The reason behind the request goes into a decision of whether or not to fund a new fire truck with TIF funds.

Plymouth Fire Chief Rod Miller presented the proposal of buying a new fire truck with Redevelopment Commission funds in May, saying that the city’s Cumulative Capital Development Fund, the fund from which a purchase like this is typically made, will not be available to support the purchase of a fire truck in the amount of about $700,000.

The truck that he plans to replace is on the department’s rotation schedule which is 20-25 years.

At the time, Commission Member Melissa Christiansen asked if TIF funds can be used for the purpose of buying a fire truck since the focus of TIF money is for economic development.  Miller responded then that a fire truck protects economic development.

More research goes into the request as City Attorney Sean Surrisi explained that he is helping Miller with his proposal.  Miley asked for an inspection report to gather perspective of the condition of the vehicle being replaced.
