The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members took action this week on a Memorandum of Understanding between the city and the Plymouth Community School Corporation concerning compensation for the school resource officer position, as explained by City Attorney Sean Surrisi.
“It’s a little over 24 percent increase that mirrors the increase in the wage that that position has seen since 2015,” said Surrisi.
The increase in wage follows action taken by city officials in 2017 when they approved increases in pay for police and fire department employees to keep up with pay in surrounding communities.
“This keeps pace with the wage increases that the position has seen. It’s paid in two installments throughout the year of $18,500.”
Board member Jeff Houin pointed out that the school’s portion of the cost relative to the base salary is largely based on the active school year.
The Plymouth School Board members approved the Memorandum of Understanding during their month earlier this month while the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members approved the document as presented. Houin abstained from the vote.
