The Marshall County Council members discussed the budget for Marshall County Community Corrections through the rest of the year.
Executive Director Ward Byers explained that the organization normally operates on a Fiscal Year budget that runs from July to June, but the state is restructuring the budget to operate on a calendar budget, which will bring it in line with the county’s calendar year budget.
“The State, in order to get us through the remainder of the year to start on a calendar year in January, decided to extend these Fiscal Year ’19 grants, and we are here today to seek council approval for those budgets,” said Byers. “They are six-month budgets to get us through to the end of this year.”
In addition to that budget request, Byers asked for the $1,000 pay raise for all employees within Community Corrections to be disbursed for the remainder of the year beginning July 1, or when the 2019 fiscal year budget year would have begun for the organization. This coincides with the $1,000 raise that all other county employees received beginning in January, which is when the county’s calendar year budget began.
When the 2020 budget begins, and if raises are approved for employees to begin at that time, then all employees, including Community Corrections, will be on the same slate.
After much discussion, the council members approved the grant funding for the budget and also the raises as requested. The extension of the 2019 grants for Community Corrections totals $152,150, Jail Treatment is $19,750 and the Prosecutor’s Diversion Fund is $29,650 through Dec. 31.
