Bremen Town Council Members Approve Bids for Summer Road Projects

The Bremen Town Council members took action on bids received for this summer’s Community Crossings projects and planned paving projects.

Ken Jones from Jones, Petrie and Rafinski explained that due to the higher-than-predicted paving bids that were opened in May, he and Street Superintendent Alex Mikel decided to drop two of the streets proposed in the Community Crossings project scope to bring down the cost.  Mikel said South Lawn Court and West Water Street were omitted from the list.

With that, the council approved the lowest bid submitted by Walsh and Kelly in the amount of $449,265.  The town’s 25 percent match is about $104,000.

Walsh and Kelly was also the low bidder for phase two of 2019 paving projects in the Town of Bremen with a bid of $72,100.  Those projects will be paid for with storm, Motor Vehicle Highway and electric budget funds.

The Community Crossings projects include work on portions of 3rd Street, 4th Street, Beyler Street, Wahl Street, Holland Street, Grant Street, South Street, and Maple Street.  Milling and hot mix asphalt, sidewalk replacement and curb and gutter replacement will occur on some of the roads while others will receive general improvements.

All contracts were approved by the council with a unanimous vote.
