Bremen Teenager Encourages Town Council to Obtain New K9 Officer

A Bremen teenager approached the Bremen Town Council members this week to ask the town to gather funds in order to obtain a new K9 officer.

Kora Callender asked for the start of a fundraiser for a new K9 which usually steeps at $15,000.  That money purchases a trained dog for the department.

In her request, Callender said that police officers work hard to keep citizens safe from drugs and another K9 officer can help in that quest.

“Let’s raise the bar as well as the funds and apply for grants to maintain the safety of our town for the position and bring our new K9 officer home,” said Callender.

Bremen Town Council President Michael Leman asked Police Chief Brad Kile his opinion on the matter.  Kile added that he, too, was going to ask to seek grants for another K9 for the Bremen Police Department.  Marshall County may have a local grant for this opportunity.  He said some other fundraisers may be planned throughout this year.

Kile commented that three or four officers may step up to take over, but Sgt. Trent Stouder, who lost his K9 partner Bardo just two weeks ago to bone cancer and other health issues, is no longer interested in being a K9 officer.

The council members agreed to allow Kile to research ways to find funding for another K9 for the police force.
