Bremen Juvenile Allegedly Breaks into Library, Uses Internet

A Bremen Police officer took a juvenile into custody last week after he allegedly broke into the Bremen Public Library to use the internet.

In the early morning hours of June 6, the juvenile’s mother called police to report him as a runaway.

At that time, the juvenile was allegedly using a ladder to gain access to the roof of the library.  From there, he located an attic door and entered the library that way, according to the report.  Once inside, he reportedly fell through the ceiling tile grid, taking out the air duct and destroying a fire alarm in the process.   He then gained access to a staff member’s Netflix account in addition to YouTube, police say.

The library director arrived at the library close to 9 a.m. when he told police that he reportedly saw the juvenile leave the library before it was open to the public.  That’s when he called police to report the break-in.

Police say the juvenile was later apprehended after a brief foot chase.  He was taken to the hospital for evaluation and later questioned about the alleged incident.

The report indicates that the juvenile took keys from the library, but lost them as police took him into custody.  The library locks are being re-keyed as a precaution.

The juvenile faces several preliminary charges including runaway juvenile, juvenile probation violation, resisting law enforcement, criminal mischief, and theft.  He also faces preliminary a felony charge of burglary.
