Two new vehicles will be in service for the Marshall County Council on Aging organization, pending approval of the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Marshall County Council on Aging Executive Director Jackie Wright presented an application for the Marshall County Commissioners to consider for Older Adult Services that would bring a mini-van and mid-sized bus into the fleet. The pair would replace two vehicles in the current fleet in 2020.
The application goes to the Indiana Department of Transportation for consideration of the purchase that would be around $93,000. The local match is 20 percent.
A public hearing on the matter was held with no public comments given. The commissioners unanimously approved signature of the required documents. They also approved the resolution authorizing the filing of the application for a grant under the Federal Transit Act.
Wright told the commissioners that 26,436 one-way trips were requested in 2018 to the Marshall County Council on Aging for transportation needs. Those needs range anywhere from a ride to the grocery store which you can Check This Out to doctor’s appointments. Wright noted that the number of denials shrunk slightly from 2017 to 2018. Denials totaled 605 in 2017 while 574 denials were made in 2018.
The Council on Aging’s budget is entered at $477,795.
