Marshall County Highway Superintendent Jason Peters compiled a list of roads that should have signage that doesn’t allow semi truck traffic.
Peters presented the commissioners with a map of the roads that should have signs that show No Thru Trucks. Commissioner Mike Delp noted that he’s seen quite a few signs up on roads already.
“They are in certain spots,” said Peters. “I think if we were going to distinguish those what we need to do is get them mapped out and put where they are on a map like this so everybody is aware where those routes are – just for general knowledge.”
Commissioner Stan Klotz thought a previous suggestion of installing a small sign that stresses the $300 fine underneath the No Thru Trucks sign should be carried out by the highway department. Delp agreed.
Klotz said that he hasn’t seen the amount of truck traffic that traveled on vulnerable county roads since the enactment of the ordinance. The ordinance was created as it was determined that heavy, large commercial trucks cause excessive wear and tear on county roads not designed to accommodate that traffic.
The map will be reviewed by the commissioners for further comment.
