This year’s tax sale in Marshall County will be Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Treasurer Angie Birchmeier told the Marshall County Commissioners last week that about 700 courtesy notices were sent to taxpayers in February to alert them of the potential of a parcel going to tax sale for lack of payment. She said a lot of them come in and pay back taxes along with the current bill during the first round of property tax collections in May. Whatever outstanding balances remain, the taxpayer will receive another letter following the May 10 collection. Birchmeier said many of them are paid before the list is certified by July 1.
There were 130 listed on last year’s tax sale. She hopes the list shrinks by July 1.
The tax sale is conducted by SRI whose assistance is appreciated by the treasurer and the auditor each year. The county had held a contract with SRI for many years with the 2019 contract unanimously approved by the commissioners last week with a $25 per parcel increase.
