The Culver Town Council members opened bids for the Cavalier Sports Park project Tuesday night.
Four bids were received from Easterday Construction, Thomas Excavating, Yoder Construction, and Michiana Contracting. The companies submitted base bids plus an alternate bid for the walking trail and a second alternate for the entry sign.
The total bids ranged from $504,818 to $722,482. The council members unanimously approved a motion to take the bids under advisement for review by Town Manager Jonathan Leist and Mike Reese from The Troyer Group. A recommendation is expected at the next meeting on June 11.
The Cavalier Sports Park project includes improvements to the soccer fields on the grounds of the Culver Community School Corporation, expanding the parking lots, moving the stormwater retention pond to the east, building a restroom facility near the fields, adding a toddler park, an entry sign, and a walking trail on the perimeter of the park.
Grant funds are available for this project from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs in the amount of about $500,000. Construction is expected to begin this fall.
