Two pilot programs were recently created to assist with development and expansion in the Town of Argos and to promote improvement and maintenance of buildings for future commercial development.
When Town Council members met for their second meeting of the month, they approved the Argos Business and Downtown Building Incentive Programs.
With these programs, the Town will set aside a certain amount of funding and new or existing businesses looking to make improvements to their operations or facility can request a portion of that money.
To be considered, individuals must follow certain guidelines and submit an application that will be reviewed by the town council or an approved board.
Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney shared one of the driving forces behind the creation of these incentive programs.
She indicated that while there were systems in place to help larger businesses with expansion, such as tax and utility abatements, similar means were not available to smaller establishments.
She noted, “We don’t really have that on the books that we can give to a smaller business so this kind of our way of closing that gap.”
Mullaney added that these programs were created to attract entrepreneurs, spur new development in the Town of Argos and to help existing businesses expand and thrive.
