The speed limit on Beech Road in northeastern Marshall County could change.
Highway Superintendent Jason Peters told the Marshall County Commissioners last week that he received a request to lower the speed limit on Beech Road between U.S. 6 and Plymouth-Goshen Trail for safety reasons.
Peters said the speed limit is 55 mph and it could lowered to 35 mph. There are young people in the area that ride their bikes to the school and it’s just not safe where they are.
Peters asked permission to investigate the issue further. Traffic counts and other factors will be taken to be a part of the report before the commissioners make a final decision.
If the commissioners decide to lower the speed limit, the speed limit ordinance would need to be changed and public comment will be gathered on the matter.
The commissioners gave permission to Peters to pursue the request.
