Plymouth School Bus Aide Assists in Emergency Situation

A Plymouth Community School Corporation bus aide stepped in to help a veteran bus driver in an emergency situation Wednesday morning.

According to information released by the school corporation, a veteran bus driver was on his normal pre-kindergarten pickup route when he experienced a medical emergency while in the area of Richter and 9th Roads in Plymouth.  It was then when a Jefferson Elementary School preschool aide, who is also a Pre-K bus aide, put the bus into park, and contacted the transportation dispatch center to report the incident.

The driver was attended to by Emergency Medical Services and he was transported to the Plymouth hospital.  Information on the driver’s medical condition was not released.

School officials say two students were on the bus at the time of the incident.  No injuries were reported.  The students were transported safely to their school and a second bus was dispatched to complete the bus route.

The Plymouth Community School Corporation commended the aide for her quick actions and safety.

It was noted that this school year marks the first year of the implementation of bus aides, when available, to accompany bus driers who operate child safety restraint system buses which transport special needs students and pre-kindergarten students.
