The Marshall County Commissioners reviewed the proposed 2019 road program submitted by Highway Superintendent Jason Peters on Monday morning.
Peters said the projects are based upon funding for this year. The increase in the price of oil plays a big part in this year’s program.
“We’ll be doing roughly 58 miles of chip and sealing, 7.5 miles of double chip and sealing and we’re looking at four different segments of road for crack sealing. For our paving projects, we originally started out with 24 miles worth but we may need to cut that back to 15 miles or so.”
He added that whatever doesn’t get done this year will be added to next year’s list which is already being drafted.
Commissioner Mike Delp said he wanted to check the roads listed on the reclaim list. Those roads include Lilac from 14C to State Road 10 and 15B from Fir to Elm. Those will be left as gravel roads.
Peters noted that there is about $1.6 million budgeted for this year’s road program. The list does exceed that funding, but Peters said it may be a good idea to have some money to work with going into next year. He stated that it all depends on distributions. He said the MVH and Local Roads and Streets funds are coming in tens of thousands of dollars less per month than each month last year.
The Marshall County Commissioners approved the road program as presented. However, Delp will look at the two roads that will be reclaimed and provide feedback to Peters.
Again, what projects are not done this year will be added to next year’s list.
