The roof-top heating and cooling units at the Marshall County Jail were recently evaluated and came back with a positive report.
Jail Maintenance Director Gary Masterson told the county commissioners this week that Dynamic Mechanical completed a heating assessment on the roof-top units. Unit No. 10 didn’t perform as well as the others, according to Masterson as he referred to the report. It covers the 911 area of the facility.
He said he got a quote from the company to replace the three-ton unit and a five-ton unit is already being replaced at a cost of $12,000.
The cooling aspects of the units will be assessed when the outdoor temperatures begin to rise and those services are needed.
He added that the first three roof-top units cover the area where the inmates are housed and if they go out, there’s no way to control the temperature if it gets too hot in the summer months. Masterson recommended replacing those units in the near future.
No decisions were made during the meeting on Monday. Future discussions may arise during budget planning.
