The Marshall County Commissioners approved a grant request put forth by Marshall County Community Corrections Director Ward Byers.
The organization plans to apply for a grant through the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute for an iTouch livescan fingerprinting machine for the Probation Department to ensure compliance with a law that requires every person convicted of a crime to be fingerprinted.
Byers explained that it’s the same type of equipment that is utilized at the Marshall County Jail in the booking area where inmate information is obtained.
The grant would be for $20,000 and there is no local match. Byers said that amount should cover the cost of the fingerprinting machine and any other hardware that may be needed to complete the installation. If there are any additional costs outside the grant, they would be paid for by user fees from Community Corrections or the Probation Department.
The request was approved by the commissioners on Monday. The Marshall County Council members approved the request during their meeting on Monday, March 11.
