Plymouth City Council Approves Employee Handbook Update

The Plymouth City Council members discussed a revision to the Employee Handbook earlier this week that dealt with vacation time.

City Attorney Sean Surrisi said the vacation time for employees who have had continuous service from 8 to 14 years will have 15 vacation days, 15 through 24 years of continuous service will have 20 days and those with 25 years or more will have 25 days each year.

If vacation days are not used in a calendar year, they will not be allowed to carry over to the next year.

As for holidays, an employee must work a full day on their last scheduled day prior to the holiday to be eligible for holiday pay including the day after the holiday.  An approved day of paid time off can be used the day prior or the day following a holiday, but a call-off that wasn’t approved won’t count.

The vacation time is a little different for firefighters.  An update there allows a firefighter to have 8 work days off for 8 to 14 years of service, 11 work days for 15 to 24 years of service and 14 days for 25 or more years of service.

With a slight amendment to the vacation policy, the Plymouth City Council members approved the revision with a unanimous vote on all three readings of the update.
