Requests for banners that are placed above Michigan Street in Plymouth will continue to go through the Blueberry Festival office, but crews from the Plymouth Street Department will hang the banners.
The Indiana Department of Transportation used to issue permits for this purpose, but the responsibility changed hands to the officials with the Blueberry Festival office. That process will continue and the Blueberry Festival officials will the purchase heavy duty zip ties to secure the banners on the light poles on either side of Michigan Street.
Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt said his department will receive the banners with the fasteners and then about four street crew members will take care of the installation. Marquardt commented that four crew members are adequate for safety purposes.
The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members approved the intstallation change with a unanimous vote.
