New Argos School Resource Officer Expected to Hit the Hallways in April

After months of careful coordination between the Argos Community School Corporation, the Police Commission and the Town Council, the new School Resource Officer will be ready to hit the hallways in April.

Argos Police Chief Corey Bowman told the town council last Wednesday that Officer Dave Carrell is expected to start in his new SRO position on Monday, April 22nd.

Town Council members provided approval for Carrell to receive training for this position back in the fall.

As a reminder, he was permitted to attend the NASRO Basic School Resource Officer Course which is a 40-hour block of instruction designed to help law enforcement officers obtain tools that will allow them to build positive relationships with students and school administrators.

Officials have spent the past several months working together to come up with a contract to define specific responsibilities for this new dual purpose officer.

School officials were in charge of setting the hours for the months that Officer Carrell will work as an SRO and Police Department representatives determined the officer’s schedule for the remainder of the year.

The position is being partially funded with a Homeland Security Grant that the School Corporation received as well as a financial commitment from the Town.
