The Marshall County Commissioners continued a discussion about allowing a perimeter drain permit at a property where a new house is being built.
The request was submitted by Robert Bosko a few weeks ago.
The commissioners tabled the request during their March 4 meeting to ensure that the process would be in accordance to rules set forth by the health department, especially since septic tank failures are at an alarming high rate.
Marshall County Health Administrator Christine Stinson told the commissioners last week that about 45 percent of habited properties in Marshall County operate with a perimeter drain.
“It doesn’t convey any sewage,” explained Stinson. “It’s to lower that seasonal high water table around the system. There has to be an outlet for that tile around the system that does not convey any sewage. The only outlet they have is the county tile that runs in that side ditch.”
With Stinson’s blessing to move forward with the project, the commissioners approved the permit with a unanimous vote.
