John Glenn School Board Receives Update on Advanced Placement, Dual Credit Courses

The John Glenn School Board members got an update on Advanced Placement and Duel Credit courses during their meeting Tuesday night.

Rose Dodson compiled a report for the board where all the statistics were given for testing and the percentages of students taking Advanced Placement, Concurrent Education, and Duel Credit courses.

Dodson said the Duel Credit opportunities for students may not be a part of the curriculum for students beginning in 2022.

“In 2022, unless you have 18 grad credits in your major you will no longer be allowed to teach Duel Credit,” said Dodson.  “If you want a picture of where that is, our Freshmen this year will be the last class that will have Duel Credit through all four years.  Our incoming Freshmen next year will get it through their Junior year, our new eighth graders next year will have very little Duel Credit unless they (the State) change the rules.”

Currently, 44.6 percent of this year’s Seniors are enrolled in AP and CE classes or a combination of both of them, about 50 percent of Juniors are enrolled in the classes, and 34 percent of Sophomores take the classes.

John Glenn currently works with Trine University, Ivy Tech South Bend, Ivy Tech in Kokomo, Ancilla College, and Ball State where students can earn college credits.
