The Culver Town Council members were updated on the contract status of trash and recycling collection services this week.
During the council’s last meeting on March 12, Town Manager Jonathan Leist said the current provider’s recycling costs are going up which means residential costs could be going up at least 12 percent this year after the current contract ends in June, if the town continues with the current vendor.
He added that users have not seen an increase in trash services in about a decade.
With the current contract nearing an end, Town Attorney Jim Clevenger advised the council members to seek bids for services.
At the March 26 town council meeting, Leist said the current company may extend the current contract for one year, or on a month-to-month basis. However, after consulting with the town attorney, Leist suggested that the council move forward with securing bids later in the year and award a bid at the end of December. The new contract would actually begin in March or April in 2020.
The council agreed to wait until Leist sees the details of the possible contract extension and bid out trash and recycling services at the end of the year.
