Argos Officials Work to Incorporate Crossing Guards into PD’s Standard Operating Procedures

Officials in the Town of Argos have been working to incorporate crossing guards into the Police Department’s Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.Ps).

At a town council meeting in January, Police Commission Liaison Shawn Harley told members that despite crossing guards falling under the jurisdiction of the Police Department, they weren’t listed anywhere in the Department’s S.O.Ps.

Harley told his fellow town council members last week that Police Chief Corey Bowman has been coordinating with Town Attorney Derek Jones about getting the position incorporated into the S.O.Ps.

Harley said the amended Standard Operating Procedures have been finalized and sent to Town Attorney Jones for review. He noted that nothing about Human Resources was included. Harley said if the town council members think something about HR should be written up, he suggested that it be put into the Town’s employee handbook rather than the SOP.

Harley said the amended S.O.Ps will be presented to Police Commission members for consideration and adoption at their next meeting.
