An Argos teacher who was selected as the 2019 AP Midwestern Region Teacher of the Year by the College Board received some recognition from local lawmakers this week.

Argos math teacher Jonathan Arndt was honored at the State House on Thursday by State Senator Randy Head and State Representative Jack Jordan.

Senator Head said that teachers play a large role in preparing students for higher education and life after school and mentioned that he is proud of Jonathan’s hard work to help children succeed.

Head noted that more students have received qualifying scores on their AP exams since Arndt began teaching advanced placement classes. He congratulated him and said those scores prove that his teaching methods and devotion to his students are truly making a positive impact.

Mr. Arndt teaches AP Calculus AB, pre-calculus, algebra and eighth grade math at the Argos Junior/Senior High School and this isn’t the first time he has been recognized for his teaching abilities.

He was nominated for Teacher of the Year through Notre Dame’s Advanced Placement Teacher Investment Program (AP-TIP) in 2017 and 2018 as well.

Officials shared that Notre Dame’s AP-TIP provides teacher training and student support to boost students’ success in advanced placement courses.

Representative Jordan noted that due to Arndt’s extensive training and skilled teaching, more students are better prepared for college. He stated that Jonathan is an incredible teacher who is deserving of this distinction.

He went on to note that his passion and dedication to his students is evident in the effort he puts forth. Jordan said our community is fortunate to have such an outstanding educator and thanked him for all his hard work.
