Argos Fire Chief Permitted to Buy Back Truck from the 1950s

Argos Town Council members permitted Fire Chief Mark Dean to buy back a fire truck that used to belong to the town in the 1950s during this week’s town council meeting.

During his report Wednesday night, Chief Dean informed members that he was recently contacted by a woman in Indianapolis who currently owns a piece of Argos Fire Department history.

He explained, “They were going to buy the old firehouse in Indianapolis and open a coffee shop so they bought it because they thought it would be nice to have a fire truck in the firehouse coffee shop but they both fell through so they don’t need the fire truck anymore.”

Dean continued, “So she listed it and then started searching the title and that’s how they got back to Argos.”

He said she’s willing to sell the truck back to the Fire Department for $2,500.

Chief Dean noted that it will require a bit of work before it is “parade ready” but shared that he felt it was worth purchasing. He highlighted how rare this unique opportunity is.

He told council members, “It’s not very often that you get a chance to bring back history.”

Members asked if the purchase would be funded out of the Fire Department’s budget. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney and Chief Dean confirmed that it could be paid for with money from the Department.

The council provided unanimous approval for Chief Dean to purchase the truck.
